As leader of Die Brücke, Kirchner's work has been seen, although infrequently, by American audiences since the 1930's , while in Europe a multitude of exhibitions, many of vast dimensions, have been organized. We have attempted as well to represent the many media in which Kirchner worked: oil, watercolour, gouache, pastel, drawings in crayon, ink, and pencil; of his vast production of prints, forty woodcuts, etchings, and lithographs; and two sculptures in wood.
